sulla
Hello how would you go about fixing a top that is a little wavy. It had been bondoed in the past and now has a crack. Would fiber reinforced bondo on top with maybe even a couple of strips of steel underneath work? Whats the best way to fix this?
U.P. Z
You'll have to remove all the bondo first and then see what wrong. It may be oil canning from previous damage. That's when you can push on it and it will pop in and out. If this is whats happening you need to shrink the metal and it will tighten up. I've used a torch to heat the metal till it just turns blue, don't let it get red, and then quench it with a rag soaked in cold water. A propane torch will work. Work around the area and then use a hammer and dolly to knock down the high spots. Of course, you'll have to remove your headliner. If it's stubborn, you could tack in some metal underneath as you suggest. And then some Evercoat fiberglass filler followed by some lightweight. Remember to rough up the metal before the filler. And don't buy it from Walmart. Go to an autoparts store and get Evercoat.
