mobythevan
Doing the swap to internal regulated GM alternator on my 240z and man what a mess I oncovered. I hadn't looked too close at the wiring around the stock alternator, but when I started this swap I noticed the ground wire looked to have melted in the past and someone had just re-wrapped it with black tape. I started unwrapping the whole wiring harness from the alternator back to below the battery and sure enough the original big ground wire had shorted and made a melting pot out of the wiring harness. Its a wonder anything worked. Looks like I'll only have to replace a handfull of wires and put in a new heavy ground. Glad I found this before driving any more. So much for a simple alternator swap.
