Guest 77vegasz
If you have the time, gut all the old wiring, and use a Painless harness. They are available to fit most any combination of devices that you may want. They are color coded, and easy to use. This will require rewiring all the gauges as well, unless you plan to swap to Autometer or some other MFg. in which case you would be doing that anyway. If you follow the JTR wiring system, it works out just fine, and you do not have to go through all the hassel of rewiring. I followed the JTR manual, and had only one or two issues with the oil pressure gauge and Tach, but I ended up using new Autometer mechanical guages and doing away with all the stock Z gauges. The most importand wires to get right are the Alternator wirs, starter wire, and wiring to your fuel pump. That will get you running. At that point, the lights and all stock wiring will work fine, then sort out the guages. Jon
Guest obediencedenied
Thank you. I figured out that i will gut the hole thing.. all those wires are nuts... there are less on my friends 99 GTP at the circut board then on the Z man... but i will use the 18 circut system... but it will be a while till i can get around to buying and installing it.. cannot get full time where i work and a measly 7.50/h aint bring it to life too fast. Thanks for the help.. this site is great.
Guest 305240
I ended up gutting mine because it was almost gutted anyway. I started with a stripped out, cut up parts car. It's looking pretty good now. With the help of a few more parts cars and ebay I've almost got everything I need. I've wired cars before, and the simplest way for me was do it system by system. Get a bunch or relays and don't be afraid to use them. I upgraded to the Honda wiper system, toyota 4x4 front brakes, ZX rear disc and master cyl.I'm sort of in the same boat as you are. I'm retired and all I get is a $500.00 a month allowance...lol...So it is taking me some time also. I also used an 1 wire GM alt to make things simple. Good luck, and keep us posted. Guest 305240
This is what I'm putting in my Z for turn signals. (see web site below) I don't know what shape your turn signal/wiper/dimmer switch is like, but I'm not going to use the piece of junk that I have. I kind of like the rocker switch idea with the LED lights. I hace enough room to mount this little baby almost anywhere I want it. Check out the site and it may give you a few ideas. If I can be of any help, just give a hollar. http://www.watsons-streetworks.com/switches.html
Guest obediencedenied
Yea i dunno... my turn switch as far as i know is perfect but i like the idea more about mounting the swiches rather then using the stock things.. but i will want one for things like killswitch(two... one being hidden) and fuel pump... ya know... i dont like some things jus wired to a hot when the car is turned on... can lead to bad things happening...
