Guest Anonymous
Hi, I'm new to this board and new to the world of hybrid Z's. I am a Honda guy, but, as of recently I gained interest with this great classic car! Now my question is I just found a 1979 240z here locally for $500 obo.. what should I look for in terms of rust, drivetrain...etc... It's just that I havent bought a car this old and I dont really know what to look for!! Well, thanks in advance!!!! I am planning on putting an Inline 6 from either the early Supra's (1987-91) model or the RB25DET from the Skyline! It seems like the price of the swap is the same as a hybrid swap in a Honda and looks like it maybe cheaper.
Guest rice is a food
eww hondas, but most importantly look for rust on the frame rails and if there is rust on the body some common places are under the battery fenders ect. if you find any i recommend u cut out the cancer and patch it up with some aluminum sheet metal... are u sure ur 1979 isnt a 280Z... u cant be that bad of a honda guy talking about a toyota though... if ur going to go with a toyota engine get a 3SGTE really low weight and squirts out a lot of hp and can have high rev limits u could probably fit 2 of em under a Z hood though... 500 its probably ruste out i think
Guest Anonymous
It might be a 280z but, atleast my Honda can hold its own...turbocharging is a great thing!! A 3S-GTE huh?! are there any sites that cover such a swap? how about the 1JZ motors?
Guest Anonymous
1979 is a second Gen Z, it'd be a 280Zx, 1978 was the last year of the 280Z. That would make it heavier still that even the 280z's, but it is a more creature comfortable car and slightly stiffer overall on the frame. DavyZ
Before you try a swap, make sure you find out what the SMOG LAWS are in your area. You do not want to put major $$$$ into a ride that will get impounded because of a failed smog check.... Seeing that you are from Ohio, rust is the BIGGEST obstacle for you.
