Whaaa? Where'd I go?

I'll give you a dollar if you remember the last time I was here....cause I sure don't. (note: I won't actually give you a dollar). I believe it was summer of '04, so entirely too long. I feel like I'm missing out on something...or a lot of things, actually. What's going on with the old faithful members? I see Scottie-GNZ is still around, thats always nice since his car is no longer with us (long live the GNZ!). Anywho, here's a "brief" update of what I've been up to.

So I was in the midst of an early-life crisis when I was last here. I had decided that I wasn't happy at school, and wasn't really sure what to do. I ended up deciding to take some time off. I was originally just planning on taking a year to regroup, but at this point I have no idea when it'll be that I'll go back. I got a job working at the local country club, which more or less sucked. Hard. But it was a summer job, it was money, so I put up with it until I could find something better to do with my time. I finally caught that break last October, when a friend of mine managed to land me a detailing job with the local Toyota/BMW dealership.

While detailing wasn't exactly my life dream, I knew that there was upward mobility in the company. Sure enough, in December I was offered a position in sales. So for the time being, I'm in training to be a salesman for Toyota/Scion. Not the most illustrious career ever, but it pays the bills and I get to get paid to spend all day dealing with cars, so things could be a lot worse. Being the new guy, I of course get the assignments that nobody else wants to take, like working our kiosk in the mall. Starting next weekend, we'll be opening a store in the mall for our group of dealerships. It's mostly a marketing exercise to see where our biggest market is, but we might sell a few cars as well. It should be interesting if nothing else, and honestly, Toyotas are a good product to be selling because they sell themselves. Our dealerships also encompass Scion, BMW, Hyundai, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Suzuki, and Ford, so I should have my hands full at the mall. We'll have 15 models on display...good times.

In some Z-related news, I'm going to have to sell my Z :( I'd love to keep it and save up the money to fix it, but I just don't have the room or the time right now to deal with it. Maybe someday down the road I'll find a new one. I'd love to, since it's a blast to drive and I love it to death. Death, that is, that is looming ever closer as PA winters are taking their toll (on the car, not me). In the mean time, I'm driving a 2004 Honda Accord EX V-6 Coupe. I'd give you a list of important features, but there's only a few: 240 HP, 6-speed manual transmission, NO RUST. It still suffers from being FWD, but it's a great car. When the lease is up on it I'll either buy it and modify the crap out of it or I'll move on to something else. Possibly a 350Z, we'll see. Anyway, check the classifieds for my Z, its a 1981 280ZX. It'd be a good candidate for somebody who wants to learn/practice welding, but more on that in the ad. Hope all is well in Z-land, and maybe I'll even try to keep up now that my life is somewhat in order.

You can always buy another one if you get the chance. Being a carsales guy is a tough road to take. If you have a decent dealership, great, but don't make it a life's goal!!! My poor wife begged me to leave car sales for five years and I took a big gamble leaving to work for a dot com. Best move I ever made.

If you can get into finance there, that would be the job to have. The sales managers make good pay too, but finance is most likely better and you'll learn some serious tricks of the trade.

Good luck!

I hope to buy another Z someday, but for now I just can't come up with the money to take care of it. As for being a salesman, its a good career for me right now. There is decent money to be made, and its not like I have a ton of expenses. Certainly I'll take more pride in being good at my job than in the job itself, but for now it makes me happy so I'm content. Someday I'll need to move on, of course...I'll make sure to look into F&I, thanks for the tip.

Right you are sir....right you are. Now if you just give me numbers to your bank account, I'll make sure to have my finance manager deposit half the dollar now and the other half upon confirmation of the transaction. I'm sorry, did I say dollar? I meant $2 million....the now deceased king of Johnstownia wanted you to have it, it says so in his will. Really, I swear.
