Fuel Sender Wiring and Something else???

On my 1973 240z, the gas guage has been working sorta every once in a while. I crawled under the back to check the sendor connections to the tank, and found that they were both loose. Upon further inspection, the connectors on the end of the wires had been brutalized beyond repair (tried to fix em up with pliers). Anyone know where to get those type of wire ends? They sorta clip on the fuel sender. BTW - the sender is leaking out the terminals - bummer since it turned out it actually works....

One more thing, it looks like there is a electric fuel pump or some other type of device right behind the fuel tank (tried to past the pic here but could not. Only one wire (out of two) are plugged in The car is using a mechanical fuel pump - anyone know what it is? It looks to be still connected to the fuel tank.... I coule make out the ending letters "ree" below corp. Dunno...

Not sure where you can get connectors like that, any chance you can just slide on spade connectors? As for your leaking terminals, go to the local auto-parts store, hardware store, wal-mart, home depot ect.. and buy a tube of a product called "seal all" It's great stuff, like a yellowish glue that seals everything (including gasoline) It'll fix your sender up like new.

I seem to remember that those years of Z's (73-74) actually used two fuel pumps. One electric and one mechanical one.

Yes, That is an electric fuel pump back there. It's mounted to the sub-frame right? It was originally installed to assist the mechanical pump when the engine rpm exceeded 400 and to help eliminate vapor lock problems.

Sounds to me like yours has been disabled, it may have died and rather than replace it a prior owner just unpluged one lead.

Yes - it did look like a fuel pump. Thanks for the information. Any problems running without the second electrical one? I haven't had any issues with fuel or vapor lock? The weird part is is still seems somehow tied in - I need to crawl back under and look again... Just trying to figure out if I should replace the electric pump or leave it alone!
