Guest Magnum Rockwilder
Never heard of a 396 small block. Unless it's some new stroker/destroked setup, there's no such thing. There's a 350, 383 stroker, and 400. The GM 396 is a big block. Anyways, you can bolt any Chevy small block in with a JTR kit or a set of mounts from Hooker. You can also fit in just about any other engine you want, including a big block, with some ingenuity. Spend some time searching.
Pyro
A small block will fit with no problem no matter what the internal dimensions of the engine are. A 396 cid sb can be made using a 400 crank that has been offset ground to hold small journal 327 rods. This gives another 0.070 stroke to the 3.760 stroke of the 400 for a total of 3.830. Then bore the block 0.060 over and there is the 396.5 cid sbc. The same thing can be done to a 350 crank for a 367.5 cid engine.
Turbo Meister
Never heard of a 396 small block. Unless it's some new stroker/destroked setup "Speed-O-Motive" in So.Cal. sells a 396 SBC Racing Assembly. 350, .030, 3.875 Stroker crank. BTW when will your turbo SBC be running? Any progress pics?
