Headlight problems

Is it possible and/or likely that the filiment on both of the brights could burn out at the same time leaving both of the filiments on the dims ok?

My diagram says the headlights got power coming in on red with black stripe then either red with white stripe(high beam) or red with yellow stripe(low beam) is grounded at the dimmer switch. The grounded one turns on the lights obviously.

I have regular dims, but no brights. Thus I have power going to the lights. And it will ground on the red with yellow strip (low beam) but grounding the red with white stripe (high beam) does nothing. I tried splicing and grounding the brights wire (red with a white stripe) just after the headlight plug to see if someplace between the lights and the switch I have a problem, but still no brights.

Any advice is appreciated.

Not likely, the usual culpert is the combination switch. Remove it and check the soldering of the wires on the dimmer lever and the switch.Check your plug contacts. Last resort is to get another comb. switch. When the comb. switch goes bad you can have either brights all the time or regular lights.

I grounded the wire out way before the switch to rule it out. I can ground out the dims and they come on, but I can not ground out the brights and make them come on.

Get this even... With the battery disconnected, I can run hot wire into the headlight plug, and a ground out the dim pin on the plug and that headlight will light up. I can then ground out the bright pin on the plug and get notta.

If yours is like the 77 model the C-6 connector shown in the fsm wiring dia. in the headlight sch. is connected in a white plug panel on the passenger side by the top of the carpet. It is a black 6 prong connector and has the RW wire in it, part of the body wiring harness not the efi. I think it's time to try a new headlight in yours. I'm still betting on the dimmer switch.
