I have a set of hooker 2147 long tube headers. I went to Summit racing's catalog and noticed that they sell the engine mounts for the v8 conversion but the transmission mounts have been discontinued. does anybody know what type of trans mount that hooker used or if i can use either a msa or jtr mount. If that doesn't work would msa's engine and trans mount work with my hooker headers?

Either JTR's or MSA's mount (crossmember really) will work on the car. Those Hookers are for the Scarab (or Hooker kit) V8 conversion? You are stuck with the engine in the forward position, but I don't think that should have any impact on the transmission mount. You can use a stock rubber biscuit with the JTR crossmember, but I'm not sure about MSA's.

do you already have a v8 z or is this your starting point. If you have one done already I'm sure that many of us would be gratefull if you test fit those hooker headers on JTR or MSA mounts...... MSA specifically for me. I may be interested in buying them from you to modify if you decide against them.

II originally installed the SBC in my car using the Hooker kit. The trans mount was made out of tubing and it was U shaped so it could be bolted to the stock location. The U faced forward to make up for the engine/trans being placed in the forward (Scarab) position. I know the JTR transmission mount will work because you drill holes and bolt it to the floorboard. This gives you the option to place it anywhere you want. However, when I changed over, I tried to keep the Hooker long tube headers but they will not even come close if the engine is mounted using the JTR method.

I would suggest you give serious consideration to using the JTR (JagsThatRun) method for installing your SBC. http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Datsun_Z_V-8.html

I used them on my JTR conversion. However, it took a lot of bending, tourching, and welding to get them to work. In the end, I feel that I should had built my own headers.

Sanderson headers also have some interesting headers. They have a block hugger with full length tubes that looks like it could work. But don't know if anyone has tried them on a Z.

Those Sanderson Headers Have The Same Dimensions As The Patriot Headers We Have A Discussion Going On About In The "will These Headers Work....." Thread.

well the sanderson ones look to be 1.5 inches higher at lowest point that patriot ones. I am wating for Mikelly to send me some measurements of the S&S headers for compro. I just wanna compare all to the S&S cause if they are really close to S&S than they may all be a waste of time.

I am also still trying to get ahold of my fabricator to ask what it would cost to cut and paste a little on some headers..... or just make a set for me.
