Ok i have a 355 that has been balanced with an forged eagle crank, eagle rods, and je pistons. My question is what size damper should i get, i know it has to be 7.25 and under, and does it need to be external or internally balanced and what does that mean. Thanks for the help.

If your rotating assembly was internally balanced, 99% of 350's are but you should ask whoever did the balance job, then you want a neutral balanced damper and flywheel. Neutral balanced damper and flywheels are sometimes (incorrectly) referred to as internally balanced.

"External balance" means the damper and flywheel have weights on them to help balance the rotating assembly. Normally this is only done on 400 and 454 factory cranks, or to keep from adding mallory to a crank.

As you mentioned, 7.25" or less. I use a 6 1/4" Fluidamper.

So if my block was at the machine shop and balanced only with the crank, it has been internally balanced, but if you are talking about externally balanced then it has to do with the crank, the balancer, and the flywheel correct?

So i need to order an internally balanced fluid damper? Also does size matter to how high you can rev, is a 6 1/4 better than a 7.25? And also i see alot of fluid damper with all kinds of prices, in jegs and summit i see 2, 3, and 4 hundred dollar price tags, but searching on ebay i found ones for $100, as this one shown

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7972948222&category=33616&sspagename=WDVW

Thanks for all the info.

Yes.

The difference, so far as to how quick the engine will rev, is so small that for all practical purposes it's insignificant. The main reason I got a 6 1/4 is to give plenty of clearance to the steering rack.

You pretty much get what you pay for, although there are bargains to be had. That one appears to be a chinese copy of a Fluidamper, but it does say it's SFI certified. I wouldn't run one that's not SFI certified.

I have an sfi rated fluid style damper that i would let go for $100. paid about $150 for it and its new in box. never used it cause it is for internal motor and i ended up building a 400 and cant use it. shipping would be about 10-15 range anywhere in the states. not sure hoe that compares with current pricing. i have some pics if interested
