Guest disassembled
Tomorrow i plan to do an intake gasket on my 82 L28T. I've already replaced the gasket once and i probably did something wrong last time. This is what i did last time: Tore everything down cleaned off head surface with gasket remover and razor blade covered gasket in copper sealer spray let gasket sit for a few minutes reattached intake tightened to spec reattached exhaust mani tightened to spec reattached turbo from the minute i started the car up i had an exhuast leak pre turbine but i was too exhuasted to tear it down again (especially when working out in the open) Do you guys have any tips? Should i leave the turbo off until i see that i don't have any exhaust leaks? Should i torque everything down more than spec? I am selling this car soon and i just want it to be running as good as possible. If anyone is interested i will let it go for $1200. Guest 73Turbo240z
are you sure your manifold decking is true still? not warped in any way?
randy 77zt
the exhaust manifold warps .check it with a straight edge.it can be trued at a machine shop -usually about $30 or $40.put the exhaust manifold on first then the intake.i use anti-sieze on the exhaust bolts.alot of times the studs on the ends of the cylinder heads break.soak parts with pentrating oil thr day before working on. Guest disassembled
Well i finally finished the intake/exhaust gasket today after spending a lot of time yesterday putting on my new motor mounts. I also replaced the turbo gasket. What a difference good gaskets make as i now have a decent running car. Before my car would take forever to make boost now it's at full boost by 2500 and holds it until redline. Next i have to look at my timing since it seems to lose a lot of power up top. I still think i should sell the car though because two projects at once is not so nice on the wallet. Greg
