Guest lovemonkeye
i have a 283 sbc bored .30 over with 71 corvette heads and about a 9:1 comp ratio. my question is what kind of carberator should i be getting for it, i understand that stock 283's came with 2 barrels but since this ones a little pumped im wondering if i should get it a 4 barrel. thanks for any information you guys can give me
jbk240z
HI, If it were me, I would use a 650 holley d.p. I think it would work great on a high-winding 283. Good Luck!
Guest tony78_280z
CFM = ((CUI *RPMS) /3456) * VE I dunno what a 283 bored over ends up being in CUI. But a stock 283 would want about 400cfm at most. [ie. 393.05 = ((283*6000)/3456) *.80 ] You've probably got more than 80% VE with those heads and being bored out a bit... (begin speculation now)... I'd shoot for about 500cfm. Definatly not more than 600cfm. Be sure you get a good manual for the carb you select to be certain it is set up properly.
