If this is against board policy i apologize, just figured some of ya'll might get a kick out of what i raced before i had my Z. Guest 73Turbo240z Posted June 22, 2005 Share Posted June 22, 2005 92' Volvo 740 Turbo Wagon 92' B230FT motor (stock motor) V15 turbo cam from enem in sweden IPD cam gear ported and polished small T3, done by me and my partner. ported and polished 530 cyl head (stock head) done by me and my partner (never got installed cause the car sold before we swapped it). isuzu NPR intercooler 3" turbo to tail exhaust, straight pipe AW71 (stock) automatic transmission (x3 across the span of 9 months) greddy profec b spec II boost controller greddy turbo timer ford SVO browntop injectors magnacore ignition wires greddy type-s bov K&N cone filter from a V6 nissan maxima thats all i can remember in the realm of go fast mods, i did a nice brake setup on it since she's a bit on the heavy side to be hauling down from 100+ mph traps, full interior, gauging, leather, heat, AC, power steering... biggest pita w/ that car, and the reason i retired it, is the transmissions, i couldn't get a freaking AW71 to live long... i even had picked up one that was allegedly "built" with kevlar discs, upgraded valving, etc... and it lasted less than 30 days.. i was pissed. i'd been talking w/ svensk racing in sweden about getting an adapter plate that would bolt my redblock to a 200r4 transmission since we had a spare buick grand national transmission laying around... but around that time the Z became mine and i decided to get out of the volvo before i did some super crazy stuff like stall + 200r4 + 60-1 turbo... i do miss it at times.. but i remind myself the Z will obliterate any records i set with the wagon... and i grin and bear it till then. Guest 73Turbo240z Posted June 22, 2005 Share Posted June 22, 2005 *addition* actually i really expected people to hate me/my car when it started racing, the 1st night i ran it i remember folks laughing at me when i lined up w/ some VR6 golf for $50... screaming i was gonna get waxed, etc... i have that video around here somewhere too, i'll see if i can't get it up... i had 3-4 cars on him by halfway through the run. in the end the thing had one hell of a fan club, there wasn't a racing spot in town i couldn't go w/ out hearing people whispering behind my back "is that the wagon i've heard about?" "man don't run that thing, it's a sleeper dog" "**** no i won't run you, i've heard about that volvo!" it was funny and irritating in the same respect, it was great when i could hustle ricers for some easy money, but eventually word got around and that didn't happen anymore, instead i had gassed LS1's and heads/cam/tire 4.6's coming after me... i felt like a middle school kid in high school football practice. but as you saw in some of the videos, i held my own against alot of em, just the occasional billy badass would come after me w/ somthing totally out of my league, then things got stupid when they were upset when i didn't try to run em. best run ever for that car, and unfortunately not on tape since i figured i was gonna get raped, i was coming home from the 1/8th mile track w/ a friend, we were rolling down the highway @ about 70ish... and the volvo being an auto was absolutely a turd on the highway... no gearing for it at all... rolled along side a 99+ gt, fire red w/ 2 guys in it, they look @ me, see the gauges on the pillar and laugh... i drop back a car, pop it over to high boost (16psi for the small wimpy t3), get in it for a second and let off by there window, blow off valve did it's flirting and suddenly they stopped laughing and got serious... passenger signals for a 3 honk, i nod... drop it down to 50mph, upper rpms in second on the auto, he starts honking, i start brake boosting, third honk bam were off... from what i could tell so far i was running a 99+ with some kinda exhaust, intake, and tires... end of run 1 i'm 4 cars in front before i let off... he comes along side and the passenger signals again, i nod, the NPR was loving the air that night, nice and chilly. three honks, brake boosted, go.... were off from 50mph again, i'm about 2 cars out, going into 3rd, on my way to being 3 cars out when i hear the sound of his motor change... fkrs on gas! he closes the gap to where he's 2 cars behind, still doesn't catch or pass me though... so by now i'm figuring surely he was jacking around, cause my car blows a$$ from a roll... stoplights coming up... they come up, window down... stang: holy sh*t dude what is in that thing!?! me: light mods, stock block volvo 4cyl, automatic, small t3... stang: man that thing was fast... i sprayed on you the second run! me: yea i heard that, whats done to yours? stang: intake, longtubes, full exhaust, x pipe (or h pipe i can't remember), 75 wet shot of nitrous express, nitto 555r's, short shifter, suspension... me: cool, good runs, see ya around (he was turning left, i was going straight, hence the lack of stoplight showdown.) that was a good run, and one i wish to god i'd had on film, cause i was really shocked about it!
