Guest Anonymous
I noticed we have quite a few members from B.C. I've recently been approached by a company in Vancouver. The job seems too good to pass up but I'm just weary of moving three thousand miles away to a different country, I know it's only Canada, but still. I hear good things about Vancouver, but is it really a nice city? How are the living expenses? I live in Boston, the second most expensive metropolitan city to live in in the States. Guest Drewz
It is one of the warmest parts of Canada and also one of the wettest. Great scenery. What more could you want..... #1 fishing IMHO!!! LOL
DavyZ
I love Vancouver. You will probably not want to move away once you move there! It is clean, friendly, and is home to Ross Corrigan and a lot of other HybridZ guys. Look up pictures on the web and you may want to think about it. It would take me all of 10 seconds to make my mind up to move there. Davy
Drax240z
OK, I'll try to give you the skinny... I've been to quite a few major cities around the world, so I have a bit of a knowledge base to build on here. First off, vancouver is nestled between the coastal mountain range, and the pacific ocean. This leads to a rather temperate climate, quite a lot of rain in the winter, but not overly hot summers. It also allows a ton of outdoor sports to be played, all year around in many cases. In my experience, vancouver is one of the most pituresque cities in the world. It is amazingly clean compared to every other major city I've been in. Crime is high compared to the rest of BC... but honestly from what I know of most major american centers, it is significantly lower. I know many people that simply don't lock their doors when they go out. (which I don't recommend) Living expenses are the 2nd highest in canada, next to Toronto. A cheap 1 bedroom apartment typically rents in the $600+ canadian range, per month. ($400+ american) If you like skiing, golfing, fishing, sailing, this is the place for you... Tthere are few other places in the world when you can do them all in the same day! Anyway, trying not to be too biased because it's close to home. I like the city very much, and that really doesn't have anything to do with it's proximity to home. It's just a really neat city.
Guest Anonymous
Thanks for sharing your thoughts guys. By all accounts, Vancouver sounds like a place I'll enjoy. A plane ticket to Vancouver is on my to-do list. Spending a week there is plenty of time to decide wether or not, it's where I want to be. Davyz, I'm an avid traveller and I've been to MANY major cities across the world and have lived in different parts of the country. In fact, I used to live in your neck of the woods. From '85-'97 I divided my time between Oakland, Modesto and even spent some time in SoCal (Long Beach). While I was in Modesto, the bay area was still my second home. Before that I lived in Montpelier, VT after emigrating to the States via Sydney from Manila. As you can see, I been 'round. I'm just having a tough time imagining myself living anywhere else other than New England. Even though I lived in CA most of my life, I'm a New Englander at heart. :sigh: I sure will miss autumn in New England.... However Vancouver sounds like an awesome place that's perfect for the outdoorsy person that I am. I've had friends who live in Seattle (which is also a pretty nice city) who fell in love with Vancouver.
Guest Drewz
If you love the outdoors it is an excellent place to live. Do you mountain bike at all??? It has some of the nicest on and offroad biking in the country. I hope you own a 4x4 as well since the offroading is top notch as well. A visit is a good idea before deciding such a huge move. Good luck ...
Mike kZ
Don't forget that Canadian money is a little more than half of American money.

Guest zfan
I have been there before but it has been years! Probably in the mid 70's when I was in high school. My Grand parents owned property in B.C. I believe it was around Nimpo lake maybe 150 to 200 miles north west of Williams Lake. By the way I always loved the area around the city of Hope BC.
