Guest tony78_280z
As advertised by Summit (I highlighted the words very light)... Change your shift points. These governor recalibration kits from B&M will allow you to adjust the shift points of your transmission after it is installed in your vehicle. These kits are very useful for transmission swaps, or if you have a car that is very light, or has a low rear gear ratio. They also work great for bracket cars retaining an automatic 1-2 shift. After reading the kit installation description here I think it might be the solution to my problem that I discussed here. By letting the car shift into 2nd at a lower RPM (It does rev pretty high in 1st before shifting into 2nd) I think I can solve my chirp problem, and probably increase my city (stop and go) MPG at the same time. The other gears seem to be ok, but I may as well fine tune them while I'm at it. I'm interested in advice from anyone who has used this product (or similar product) before I proceed. Thanks
Guest whyme
Tony, Are you sure your shift cable is correctly adj? That will certainly hold a gear on a 700. The correct adjustment there are 2 ways.the tab pushed in at end then when you floor it it will "click" out to right spot or have someone floor the car push adjuster down partially and slide back till there is no slack in the cable.{ I prefer second } I tried the gov kit in my 4x4 700r4 very hard to get right spring weight combo.Never could get it right. If your second shift is to hard what servo are you running? Also how much stall are you running ? Is your trans post 86 with an abuse valve? That will help on softening up putting into gear. Frank
Guest tony78_280z
Well I thought my TV cable was set up correctly. Now I'm not so sure. It is set up with no slack in the line at all, so I'm gonna add a little slack and see if that helps. I have a stock 700r4 from an 89 something. I have the converter it came with, and as far as I know it is the stock servo. I put the B&M kit in myself. I do not know what an abuse valve is. Guest whyme
Tony, If your trans is an 89 you have an abuse valve. An abuse valve does just what name implies. {it dumps excess pressure upon putting into gear,"Neutral bang killer "}Also too soften putting into gear . If you had the detent all the way back the the trans will shift full presure shifts .Have a GF or Buddy floor the car. Then push the release and let cable go out .Then take your other hand and at end of plastic and gently pull back until all slack is gone.If the trans is a stock 89 , unless it is from a vette it will not have a corvette servo stock. The stock stall will also have an effect on putting into gear and "feel" of shifts. Guest tony78_280z
If you had the detent all the way back the the trans will shift full presure shiftsDefine all the way back. I have the cable very tight with no slack and am gettin these tough shifts. .Have a GF or Buddy floor the car. Then push the release and let cable go out .Then take your other hand and at end of plastic and gently pull back until all slack is gone.Frank Here is where you realy lost me.If the trans is a stock 89 , unless it is from a vette it will not have a corvette servo stock. The stock stall will also have an effect on putting into gear and "feel" of shifts. I doubt it is from a vette. The B&M kit messin around in the servo to create stronge shifts.
Guest whyme
Ok car off. Have someone floor car. Then push the adjuster release down so it lets the plastic adjuster slide out. Then still while holding realease down ,pull back plastic till there is no slack in the cable GENTLY.The car should be floored whole time while you adjust.Once there is no slack release adjuster. That should be correct setting. If you had it all the way back definitly incorrect .That's where your Teeth Jaring shift is coming from.If you need a pic.I will take a couple of mine.On average the plastic is sticking out from adjuster is about 1/2" for reference all are slightly different.
