Guest Aaron
On July 3, I turned 30. My wonderful wife surprised me with the Rookie Experience at the Richard Petty Driving Experience at Talladega Superspeedway. August 13 was the date of the drive. WOW is all I can say. I did a top speed of 151 with my best lap of 141. In the package I got, you do one warm up lap (though at 'dega, you are in 4th gear by the end of pit row, and you are near full throttle most of the time), six full speed laps, and a cool down lap. You follow an instructor. You are supposed to stay 3-5 car lengths back and stay in his groove. I did fairly well. I had trouble staying in his groove coming off turn 4 which hurt my averages. On the other hand, I caught my instructor's draft a time or two coming onto the backstretch, and that was incredible! It felt strange to be accellerating as I lifted off the throttle. I know many of you have done things more exciting than this, but for me, driving at Talladega has been a dream as long as I can remember. Now, if we could only rent the track for a z car event...
