ZR8ED
Well if you swap in a VG30ET, your going to need a bit more than just the engine. you need the front cross member from a turbo car. The motor mounts are not in the same location on an N/A car. You will likely need a turbo ecu, and you will end up with some left over wires on the engine and the stock n/a harness. It does work though. VG30ET's are not intercooled, so you don't have to worry about that right away. A stock turbo engine will be a huge and noticeable difference from what you have now. Turn up the boost a few psi (no intercooler) add a 3" mandrel bent exhaust and a nice high flow muffler and cat (if required where you live). Wala.. More than enough hp for most people. mtcookson
?? http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=105215 i put a reply in the other thread. i'd just turbo the n/a engine. you'd get a bit more power, spooling would be quicker, you'd retain low end power, and you'd most likely get a bit better gas mileage compared to the vg30et. it would also be cheaper to get the basics like the ecu, wiring, injectors, manifolds, and turbo compared to getting a whole motor. that's just what i would do though... i really don't see any benefits in having the actual turbo motor since the stock n/a 9:1 compression isn't all that bad for boost. ZR8ED
You still need the front crossmember. The n/a mount on the drivers side, interfers with the turbo. Not just a little bit either. The turbo clearly sits where the n/a motor mount is.
mtcookson
that's interesting... i wonder if they use the same mounting locations that the maxima does. when doing the vg30et swap into my maxima that was the very same problem (i just fixed the issue by moving the turbo the crossover pipe which works wonders on the maxima). i wonder why they did that on that n/a though. Guest Jason84NA-T
Pretty much all the information you should need is right on my website. Z31.com is also another good resource if you have questions of this Z31-specific nature.
