sjhafa
Per the JTR manuel on my early 72 240 I have (2) black and white wires comming from the old ignition coil and ballast resistor. Im hooking these up to my HEI disributor. My question is one of them is supposed to have a protective sleeve to the bat terminal, and the other goes to the neg or (gnd) on my HEI. Neither or them has the protective sleeve. One does have the original "C" clip on the end but the other has nothing attached. If these are hooked up wrong will the car start or will the tach just not work? Will I damage anything? Thanks!!

Mike kZ
It looks to me, that the blk/wht wire that was attached to the ballast resistor is your power wire, the one that went to the coil is your ground. http://www.autozone.com/images/cds/gif/large/0900823d801d1d81.gif
sjhafa
Mike, thanks for the reply but thats my problem I don't know which is which. What will happen if the 2 are switched around if I hook them up incorrectly?
Mike kZ
I don't think anything major would happen, but I'm not sure. You could put a meter to the grn/blu wire on the ign switch, then touch either blk/wht wire and see which gives a reading. The one that reads something is your ground wire. Make sure your ballast resistor is not hooked up. Do this with no power, and use the ohm or continuity on the meter
sjhafa
Thanks. I'll try it one way and see what happens. Still much to do before that happens but getting closer every day......
