Guest Anonymous
Hello everyone. Has anyone replaced the gauges in a 280zx? If so what sizes worked for the Speedo, and The Tach? Also the dash gauges? Did autometers Five inch tach and speedo work? and what about there small, I think it's 2 1/16 for the dash? My speedo and tach don't work since I swapped for a 350 and I can't figure out why. I'd like to spice it up a little and put new gauges in. Also, has anyone ever put a full pillar,or just a pillar pod in the zx's? If so what size did you use. I called Autometer trying to get some sizes from them, and they said they don't keep anything like that in there data base. I know they are molded using ABS plastic, and I could heat them if I can get a close fit to make them fit better. And one final question, has anyone found an HID kit for the factory lights? I know motorsport makes an H4 conversion I believe, but just wondering if anyone else out there has something. Anyway, thanks for everyone's advice. sean ------------------ "I feel the need, the need for speed!!"
Guest Anonymous
Hi, I have the AutoMeter Phantom Monster Tach and 160mph speedo in my 83. I just removed the originals and the clear plastic instr. cover and centered the tach/speedo over the holes and tightened down the clamps (clamps have to be reversed on the studs). Yes I know there is no cover now over the temp and gas gauges. The other gauges can be repaced by the 2 5/8" gauges made by most of the manufacturers. I used VDO's but one day I'll replace them with Autometer Phantoms to match the tach/speedo. I had put the VDO's in when it was still L6 powered. The center gauges come out from the rear as one unit by removing the glovebox interior. A Chevy speedo cable fits the Autometer and a factory Datsun speedo cable will screw onto the Chevy trans as well. Just use the apropriate (sp?) Chevy trans. speedo gear. Modern Motorsports Ltd
Ditto Richard on OE speedo working fine... your tach will work if you do the same mod as other Z's as per JTR as well, want a 160mph/270kmh speedo? I've lined two OEM models up but need a joint buyer for the 2nd so I don't have to prepay for both.....drop me a line if anyone is interested ------------------ Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.
