v8dats
hi folks i installed a balancer on my blue z and when i went to bolt in the bolt that holds it in it just slipped in . i thought that i had the wrong bolt(i had it in a bag from another engine and it was labeled)so i ran up to autozone and looked thru their computer and saw that it called for only one size for the sbc. when i brought it home i notice that it was the same size as the one i had. does anyone know if gm used another sized bolt for the balancer or is this a custom machine shop fix for a stripped out crank bolt? i checked to see if they were stripped but the are not it still has nice threads but not the standard 7/16-20 RH in. i also checked on summit racing and they list two different size bolts but its just for the head(teasers). any info would be appreciated wheres grumpy?lol
jt1
Most likely the bolt has been stripped and rethreaded, probably to big block chevy size. Try one of those. jt
v8dats
that was going to be my next guess but autozone dont have one when i called them. if that doesnt work i will probably buy a tap and die set to find the size. i need to buy one anyways. and if anyone needs to know for future refference the big block bolt is 1/2-20 RH in. thanks for your reply JT1
