Guest ON3GO
Okay.. I wired my Z today. Microtech LT8 unit, MSD box, Blaster 2 coil, push button start, 280ZX Turbo dizzy with Z31 turbo dual pick up wheel, etc etc etc. i got everything working but no spark. i think the problem is the wires coming from the dizzy. the green, black, red and white. now on the dizzy it has those 4 prongs, that are labled B, R, G and some other one i cant read. when i do a continuity (sp?) test on the color wire and the little that starts with that color none of them work. like the B goes to the RED wire, the G goes to the white, and etc.. not Red with R and B with Black. bad pic but u can sorta see the prongs. heres the wires.. cant see the colors but they are red, black, white and green. now the microtech has those same color wires coming from the ecu itself. so i thought color to color, but maybe im wrong. any ideas? i also caught my Z on fire today, messed up the wiring and when i turned it on.. SMOKE... FIRE. haha.. so i thought in good nature i would return the fav.. Not Work Safe.. HAHAHHA mike
v8dats
wow that sucks! i hope you get it all figured out. way to get back at the electrical system! better that than kicking and throwing it around. i know you have been working late on it. maybe you need some rest and a fresh start. Zraced...
If I remember correctly the colors should match from the Microtech to the Dizzy. I got my setup running using the stock 1983 dizzy and I just swapped out the CAS wheel with one from a 300ZX. Did you get your Microtech from Microtech in Australia? They will make you harness match your setup. When the CAS is hooked up right the yellow light on the Microtech will flash as the motor turns over. Red = Power White = 6 slits Green = 360 slits Black is ground White is crank input# 1 Green is crank input # 2 I'm not familiar with the MSD setup...hope it helps a little
Guest ON3GO
ya it was flashing yellow when cranking.. but then why no spark? no spark from the coil.... mike
Zraced...
My setup is a little different...I am running 6 coils off my LT12. I have a separate harness for the coils from the ECU. Does your fuel pump relay turn on when the motor is cranking? Are you getting power to the MSD? How are your triggering the MSD to fire? Guest ON3GO
the fuel pump and etc all works.. just no spark. i have the 2 coil wires coming from the box.. i have the ign 1 off the microtech going to the white wire on the MSD box. i have the red ign 12v wire from the msd box to the pink wire from the microtech that goes to a hot lead. mike
getZ
I would back up a step first. Can you manualy trigger the MSD? Disconnect the white wire from the MSD and ground it. Every time you ground it, you should get a spark. It's pretty loud so it's hard to miss. Sounds like a star wars blaster effect.
Guest ON3GO
ill try that and see what happens. only other thing i can see wrong is the msd isnt get any power or enough.. it had voltage at the white wire/microtech ign wire splice.. so i cant see how its not. msd is grounded to the strut tower bolts (no paint), red wire direct to battery, ign 12volt red wire to the ign switch, the white wire to the microtech ign output wire and the 2 wires that go to the coil going to the coil lol. what could i be missing. is there away to maybe manualy test my dizzy to see if thats working? ill give it a shot again today and hope i get it working.. thanks guys mike

Guest ON3GO
u coming over to the shop to see what ive been doing J? btw if you got my message the lower dash is _ mike
Guest ON3GO
getting 12.4 volts on the red wire. getting .34volts coming out of the dizzy on the white wire with no change when turning it by hand. getting 4.86volts on the green wire getting 4.86 volts on white wire coming OUT of the microtech. if i hook the 2 white wires up and turn it ill get the 4.86 when it hits the little marks on the pick up wheel but not 12V's.. Thumper on the forum said imight need a resistor which i might on that line, but im still so damn confused. mike
Guest ON3GO
okay so msd is good.. its getting full voltage.. coil is GETTING NO voltage. tps is okay now. the wire coming from the microtech to the msd is not working.. its got voltage.. full too but still no spark. is it in the settings maybe? microtech ppl help! mike
Zraced...
What is your ID Ref? It should be set to 6 and your TDC Ref should be set to +30. Mine were screwed up and never ran until I changed these settings. The white wire is only the signal wire you shouldn't need 12V to trigger the MSD right? I'll have to look at the schematic of the LT8. Keep track of your original settings...I'm basing things off my LT12 Might be hard to read the CAS signal unless you have an O-scope. Zraced...
Does your LT8 have a coil pack output harness? Grey/Red? Grey/Black? Grey/White? Or something similar? Maybe if you post your schematic it might be easiler to figure out.
Guest ON3GO
nope dont have the coil pack harness.. just the black, green, white and red lines... and whatever the ign 1 out put line is.. mike
