Guest Anonymous
Going through my new 280z and replacing things I have found some odd stuff... -When I did the diff I noticed the mustache bar was snapped in half and sort of hanging there. -The clock inside is original, and KEEPS TIME! -I recently took rotors off to have em turned, and the brake calipers are not the same kind. -Also doing the rotor job, the bearing to hub nut was not even finger tight. This car has been on the road for over 4 months now. -Any key generally the same size as the original can start the car. -Heater/Defroster works on one side of the car only. I dunno if this is some normal stuff for Zs but I remember hearing the clocks inside never work. This is my first car so I'm not sure. Guest Neil
Yeah, the guy who owned my Z before me did some realy weird things to it/with it. When I cleaned it out after purchasing it, I found all kinds og hay in the spare tire compartment. He also put a big hole in the rear bumper. I think it was for a trailer hitch. P.S. My clock doesn't work, but a lot of the other gadgets did.
randy 77zt
mr. dan -all normal for old z.the heaters take a liitle fiddling to get them set for winter.i took the water valve out fron side of heater core and put a universal unit under hood.some body needs to come up with a reasonable priced lockset.z had front calipers made from 2 separate subcontractors.what is amazing about an old z is how much stuff can be all @#$%ed up and the car still runs every day.i have had to limp my car 150 miles home from laguna seca and it still made it home at a 55 mph cruise. Both of these I find to be unusual. Although I have heard of mustache bars actually breaking, they are so very strong that they usually break only under extreme conditions (read: drag racing) and only usually when some other part has already failed as well. The clock? Well, if it works sell it on ebay and start the reserve at over $100 Very unusual to have a working clock IMO. Not even the clock in my Q45 works supremely well. Ah Nissan... Guest Anonymous
Ya the mustache bar split in two at the hole where it connects to the Diff. We (my dad and I) replaced the mustache bar, diff, and mount because none of them looked very good. Thing is we had to drive it about 80 miles home with all that, it was pounding pretty bad hehe. Guest Z-rific
Keep hush-hush on the whole "nearly any key starts my car" deal. We don't want it to get out that these cars can crank sometimes just by looking at them right.
