240hoke
you hsould be fine with those spring rates but you prolly want a 10" spring, a little soft but they sound perfect for what you want to do. Seems strange azc would have sold you 8" spring for your application. The only reason i know to go to the 8 is for stiff rates and more tire clearence. Sounds like sectioning is the way to go -- you should be able to get your money back for those illuminas as im sure somebody would grab them from you. I am running 250/275 on my 240z with tockico's,heim jointed lca's, and t/c rods and i dont think the ride is too bad. Its rough for sure but not jaring or enough to throw you from the seat as you describe. Heres a little reference for sectioning, this is on a 240z http://www.geocities.com/projectzt/coilovers.html
Ed260Z
Another idea is; did you shorten the bump stops before you installed them. I made that mistake on a car once before, and when you hit a bump it would bottom out very quickly. It's amazing what that extra 1/2" of travel can do for you. datzun240
Yea... i just shorted my bumpstops and the front is 100% better now. I shorterned the rears as well, but it seems thats not gonna cut it for the rears. I didn't think about shortening them until i talked to a buddy of mine, who made the same mistake as you stated above and as i just experienced. The rears are probably still hitting the bumpstops, so i'll have to swap a 10" spring in the rear, or possibly section the strut. thanks for all the input. Yea and also after i shortened my bumpstops, i was no longer jumping out of the seat. Its definately better, but it can always be better. for now, it will do. thanks for the input, i could probably afford to put a 10" spring in the rear w/o having to have the rear raised up higher than it is now, my adjustability is right on the border line of 1.5 to 2 inches lower than it is now. Guest Z Draci
Don't forget that the tyres are technically springs as well. If you want a more comfortable ride, you should get touring tyres with taller and softer sidewalls. Even sports sedans with their 18 and 19 inch wheels have harsh rides now. You can also try the Chapman approach by getting softer springs/dampers and offsetting that with super stiff stabiliser (anti-roll) bars. This is how Lotus and Jaguar keep their ride soft while retaining road holding.
