Lvcien Posted March 24, 2006 Share Posted March 24, 2006 So today I spent some time down at a bodyshop near me, they also send out new body panels and such... I thought it was really cool how they packed them so I'm sharing... I saw a hood, so that's what I'll try to convey. They made the box out of cardboard, sealed the edges up real tight and cut little 1.5 inch in diameter holes in a 10 spots (4 on each flat side near the corners, then one on the two long sides . Then they took the hood, and wrapped it with sheets of giant soft plastic, like gladwrap, but a little thicker, After the whole hood was wrapped up, they slid it into the box. They had a gun filled with warm melted styrofoam (I'm sure the cans at home depot would serve the same purpose) They then sprayed it into the box slowing filling it up, until it reached the first two holes near the bottom, then stopped, let it dry, and continued until it reached the holes on the sides, stopped, let it dry, and continued all the way through until the box was filled. They took a razor and cut the amount which oozed out of the holes and covered them in brown packing tape... It's cool because all the customer has to do, is rip open the box and break off the foam & unwrap it... apparently it's really cheap for them to ship stuff like that because it doesn't get damaged easily.
