N42 head Converted P79 towers

Hey guys, recently my N42 cam and camtowers took a dump. The cam is now trashed, same with the cam towers. I have a spare P79 head lying around and i plan on installing the rockers, cam, and camtowers onto the N42 head. My question is, will the stock (F) cam from the P79 create a problem with running the N42 head on an F54 block? I heard that with this high compression setup (10.5:1) i should use a performance cam to relieve cylinder pressure and prevent pinging. Would i be okay if i used the stock cam and retard the timing?

Why not just use the P79 head?

As far as pinging goes' date=' I don't know about the stock cam, but I am running a shaved .080 P79 head on a F54 block giving 10:1 compression. Using 93 octane gas, I have no pinging.

P.S. What did you do to trash the cam and towers?[/quote']

i had a thread that i posted a while back about one tower shim. Well i did as my machinest told me and what a few z owners told me (remove rockers and spin the cam). Well it spun freely with that one tower shim on. My guess was either the head was already warped on top, or the tower shims finally settled and was uneven.

i honestly dont want the n42 head to go to waste, my machinest said to place the cam towers and cam from the p79 and he'll determine if the head is salvagable. Majority of the head is still in prestine condition.
