alternative to toyota upgrade- long-

in the last few days i have had 2 people interested in what i call stage#2.. anyway here's what we need to make it work so its cheaper than the real big setup as a bolt on.its not looking good so far........

First: the outlaw 2800 caliper will bolt on to the original 240 caliper bolt holes....for that matter so will the 3000/4000 series.

its almost perfectly centered on the 84 300 rotor BUT the rotor isnt large enough to cover the pads. it needs to be at least 1/2" larger or closer to 5/8" from what i could tell this am mocking it up. i havent been able to find a oem type rotor that will bolt on to the 240/280 hub with or w/0 a spacer. is there any other nissan /toyota that is 4 lug that has a BIG front brake? if a rotor needs an adapter to change the bolt spacing then it will be getting to the price of buying race rotors so no savings then. the 300 4lug rotor can be used but then the caliper cant "bolt on" the original ears (at least one) would need to be cut off so the caliper could be moved in closer to the hub centerline. i took a pile of digi pics and will upload tomorrow. (the usb readers at work and the camera is way to slow thru serial) oh.. the 300 rotor is close to 10.75" dia so need one 11.5" or so.

the 2800 calipers arent that much more than a 4runner one $ wise- plus being billet and stainless steel pistons and 8lbs lighter each. i will try to see how difficult it would be with welding a plate bracket to use but most people seem aversive to this approach-

the 87-88 are called a floating rotor- i dont see how its lighter than the bolton rotor though- it looks as heavy.

but they are a bit bigger - never measured but with them being 5 lug the redrill doesnt work anyway due to offset. and redrilling front hubs is more difficult than redrilling rears

given the situation where someone has nice 4lug wheels in 15 or 16" and just wants bigger brakes but better than 4runner .....

i have been needing a front brake upgrade and noticed some of the aftermarkit calipers use the 3.5" bolt spacing on caliper that z cars have.calipers like willwood,sierra.outlaw.but what rotors to use?maybe eighties toyota supra/cressida?i dont have old willwood caliper around to work on this.or thinking of building adaptor to bolt to rotor mounting surface on hub to run coleman race rotors.the toyota calipers are heavy.got any trashed calipers around to use for test fitting?

87-89 300ZX turbo. Has a small lightweight hub and very large rotors. 5 lug of course, but hubs and rotors could both be drilled for 4 lugs. The rotors are larger in diameter(Not sure how much larger though) and a good bit thicker than the 84-85 style. The 87-89 turbo rotors also slip on over the hub, making the rotating assembly much lighter.

z32 hubs and rotors are very similar design, and the z32 rotors are thicker yet and just a smidge larger in diameter than the 87-89 turbo(Like maybe 5mm larger dimaeter).

thats what i'm already doing.........

it gets more complicated... IF you use the outlaw 3000 which is the same as a wilwood superlite 3- and use the oem nissan bolt holes you are limited to a 11.25" (approx)rotor dia. also in a .81" thickness(most likely) so far havent found a rotor that will accomodate this bolt on application.

at least with a oem rotor.....

another possibility is..

i will make a new post as its a different idea..
