Evan Purple240zt
Hey guys, my coilover conversion is going smooth as silk. Except for one thing! I have the 240z kit and the fronts include a thick washer. Where does it go? Also, what do i do with the orings that are taped to the insides of the sleeves. Forgive me, but am i supposed to use the old metal upper plate that the spring used to rest on with the new upper spring mount? Help guys, im doing reassembly tomorrow!!! Thanks all- Evan PS got that ESSEX fuel pump in too!
jeromio
The big washer gets welded to the strut tube about 5 - 5 1/2 inches from the bottom (of the tube). The threaded collar rests on it. You have to cut off your old spring perch. Do this by grinding off the metal just above the weld. Then turn the strut upside down and hammer off the perch. The O ring is for the gland nut. Throw the old upper plate away along with the perch and the springs. You can keep the old rubber isolator. I didn't cut mine at all, but I think you are meant to cut off the bottom inch or so of the rubber. (I'll be trimming mine when I take my struts off again for sectioning) I dunno how helpful it will be, but I have some info and pics on my GroundControl conversion at http://240z.jeromio.com under the suspension link. Mike SCCA has some good pics and info at http://fonebooth.com/suspension.html, although I'm not sure how similar his parts are to the GroundControls. Guest scca
i'm a dealer for GC as well . some of the pics are GC pieces. the washer your talking about is it 3/4" hole?? if so then look at the pics on the site. the ring is likely a coilover shock retainer ring not applicable to your setup ------------------ Mike mike@fonebooth.com http://www.fonebooth.com/brakes.html raceparts and brake upgrades. Guest scca
you shouldnt be able to hear the rattling. you can zap strap the spring to the top retainer and drill a hole to the bottom one as well.. also for a street car maybe use duct tape about 1/2" wide and attach to the threaded portion. ------------------ Mike mike@fonebooth.com http://www.fonebooth.com/brakes.html raceparts and brake upgrades. Evan Purple240zt
Hey guys whatsup> you have answered all of my questions. YOU RULE. Mike, sorry it was like 2 am wheni posted that last thing on wheel adapters and i forgot the link! DUH. Ill put it over here and put it under the other thread too! Mike i changed lug patterns. Thats why i got different adapters. I also changed wheel sizes etc and wanted a perfect fit. I already prepped and removed the perch, the washer i was referring too was in fact the 3/4 inch hole one. Have you guys ever experienced rattling with your coilovers? Springs rattling against the tube or whatever? Thanks gentleman- Evan PS almost forgot the site again, here goes! http://home1.gte.net/buetow/index.html
