silicone boy
I've been lurking for weeks and finally decided to come out of the closet. In fact, I found my V8 Z from a posting on this site--I wanted to build my own but I couldn't pass up the chance to buy a real clean conversion. Besides, with all the time I've saved, I can work on what I truly want--a vehicle capable of inducing nosebleeds on the turns. My previous project car was an Improved Touring VW GTI. I used Ground Control coil overs with spring rates in the 400 lb/in. range and I didn't feel that this was too stiff for the occasional grocery run. My question to you all is, what is the maximum spring rate you would use for a purely street driven car? I see that many of you are using springs in the 200 lb/in. range. Will this allow a Z to run with the almighty C5 Vette in the handling department or are stiffer springs in order? Your input would be greatly appreciated. Guest scca
depends on if you want to turn when at speed or not? IMO a typical v8 car would use 200-225 springs. for a firmer ride go 225-250. F-rear. spring rates are misleading as factors like the type of suspension rate into that. leverage and all that. my 510 Used to have 1100lb stock style springs in the oem a-arms when i changed to coilver shox it was close to 350lb. each car is different but i think 400 in a z would be bone rattling. i dont even run 400's in my race car. ------------------ Mike mike@fonebooth.com http://www.fonebooth.com/brakes.html raceparts and brake upgrades. randy 77zt
i run 225 in front & 250 in rear and car works good on track.if spring is too stiff tires wont hook to ground-especially if you are on public roads.call ground control-thats where i got parts for my car. Guest Anonymous
It depends how much your car weighs also... I have the nissan european springs, and they're WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too soft. They're somewhere in the mid 100 range or so. Definately don't go under the low-mid 200 range! God I can't wait to get rid of those shitbox springs! ------------------ Morgan http://z31.com/~morgan/s30 http://carfiche.com
