Guest Anonymous
Somebody on this board mentioned that second generation Mazda RX7 wheel studs were longer than the Z car has (10MM longer I think?). Does anyone remember this or have any personal experience? The stock studs do not protrude all the way through the nuts on my car which has Panasports on it. I would like to make the change if I can get the information correct. Thanks in advance. Larry

Guest scca
use a 240sx or maxima stud? cant remember which one but one of the 90's nissans has a stud with the same knurl as a 240Z and is 1/4" longer. i think its the front studs from a 240sx they have the semi-floating rotors and thus longer studs - as i remember. ------------------ Mike mike@fonebooth.com http://www.fonebooth.com/brakes.html raceparts and brake upgrades. Guest Anonymous
So all these folks running spacers of more than 1" are buying Nissan Comp studs? What are those going for? I thought I saw a recent posting for a guy that found a much longer stud with the correct pitch and size, but with a one tooth difference on the pressed end at the axle. C. Modern Motorsports Ltd
Well with spacers either longer studs for slip ons or normal studs for bolt ons. For longer studs Mike's laid it out, the 240sx and for true longer studs ARP's quality and value can't be beat IMO. My 3" ARP's were ~$2.50US each at the time. Depending on the studs you get you may need new lug nuts as well(those 12x1.5 Mazda ones mentioned would...OE Z's are 1.25 AIR). ------------------ Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. Guest scca
i dont ever recall a longer stud than 1.5" without going to the nissan comp one. i've looked in a few parts books and nothing is listed in that length with a knurl that size or larger. there are a few longer with smaller knurl but that does us no good! i use ARP studs when i need longer than the 240sx stud. they are $3 ea and real easy to install (with the right drill bit) just ask Jim (Blkmgk) ------------------ Mike mike@fonebooth.com http://www.fonebooth.com/brakes.html raceparts and brake upgrades. BLKMGK
Go with the ARPs. It's really not that much work with the correct sized drill bit and a little elbow grease. Just make sure the hole is centered properly, one of mine was slightly off and the rotor was a bit tough to seat Bit of work with an air gun took care of it bu tit was scary for a few minutes... Guest Anonymous
Spacers.... Have them made, buy them off the shelf? I just purchased a set of 15 X 7 Panasports with 22 offset. I need to put some distance between the wheel and the hubs. Would it be easiest (cheaper) to have the spacers made, than to purchase some. I am thinking about 1" spacers. Also I have a set of alloy wheels with good hubs and 4X4.5 patter... what about cutting them up, turing them and then shaving them down to desired thickness.. they have steel inserts for the wheel studs anyway... too much work? Guest scca
its personal preference but adding more weight with cast seems a waste. 5" billet is about $12 a inch you will need at least 1.25" to make it trued up at 1" plus hogging the center out for the hub bearing and drilling the pattern , a pair is worth around $100 or so thats $25 worth of billet and $75 worth of lathe time. anyway thats what i sell them for... ------------------ Mike mike@fonebooth.com http://www.fonebooth.com/brakes.html raceparts and brake upgrades.
