My friend's dad had used to use this old 280Z as his daily until it died. They just let it sit in his back yard for about 6 years. One day I was over at his place and was askin about all the different project cars they have (they have a tendency to throw v8's in just about anything they can...). I asked about the Z car, and they said they wern't gonna do anythin with it, and that if I wanted it, I could have it.

After debating it for a while, I took them up on the offer. However, I didnt really get to doing anything, and it still sat in the yard for another month. I finally got some money together to start on it, and they hit me with the nail in the coffin: "Ya know... we have a built LT1 we're not gonna use if you wanna throw it in there..." So I'm getting a free Z, and a torn down, blueprinted and fully rebuilt, balanced, ported LT1 with a mild cam, for around $2500 bucks. :icon28:

So that really inspired me to get my *** in gear. Im probably gonna be posting here a lot more, and asking for advice... but I'll try to search before I make obvious posts, lol.

The goal is gonna be absolute minimalism, and pure speed. It's gonna be caged, and stripped, and since one of my jobs is a Recaro vendor, I'm gonna get me some race buckets ;)

The car is VERY straight, never been in an accident, and the rust is minimal (mostly surface rust... one of the FEW things California is good for...) altho I havn't gotten to take a peek at the floorpans under the carpet, they looked pretty good from underneath! The only car cancer we found was on the exterior of the rear hatch, but thats easily repaired, or even replaced (god bless Pick-Your-Part)

NOW THE PICS!

Looking good so far. I suggest you decide whether or not you want this to be a street car or a race only car. Ah, but I catch myself since I was going to say, "You can't really do either on the cheap with a 280Z since it still falls under the biannual smog check in CA..." but this totally depends on what year the car is so, WHAT YEAR IS THE CAR?

Sounds like you have a good plan already for the car and it'll do fine. Cage it after you get the swap done--words of wisdom there---heed them.

Muahahaha... its a '75  Smog check? What's that?!?!? :P

It's going to be a race car... street driven. :D I have a 00 Impreza RS as my daily (with nearly a full race suspension, and the rough ride doesnt bother me...) and its reliable and good on gas to get to and fro from work... Altho I may part out the Suby for more project car moneys, and a slightly more forgiving commute. :D
