Guest sfm12
I will be building a 71 240Z. I already have a 72 Chevy small block, 327 crank, newer target heads, hecho in Mexico, (don't laugh, everything I have I bartered or got free), 700r-4 tranny and a 79 280ZX for parts. I am planning on taking the brakes, rear end, half-shafts, springs, wheels, and air conditioning out of the 280. Can someone tell me if I am forgetting anything? The 280 is going to the wrecker within a week. Thanks Scot
DavyZ
Since no one else has answered this post, it looks like you've got it all. You might want to pull the tach out of the 280--if I remember correctly, this is what you want according to JTR. The tach from the 240 doesn't work with HEI if that's what you're using. Hope this helps. David
Guest EPS
If I were putting a sbc in a 240 (my project is 280z V8) I would not put the rear end of the ZX in my 240. Too much weight and the tailing link on the ZX squates on hard launch. I see no advantages but than I may be missing something in what you are attempting. Kevin Shasteen
The ZX rear is beefier than the 240z's rear & will handle more torque as a result prior to grenading. As fore the Tach; JTR says to use a 280"Z" not 280"ZX" tach in the earlier 240's. But grab the old instruments if you want to hassle w/pulling them & barter w/them later. If you are a barterer; then grab as much off the 280 as you can if it doesnt effect the price of the sale deal you've already struck w/the salvage yard. Items to grab would be like interior skins, tail light lens assemblies, front turn signal assemblies, A/C hardware. Anything you can later barter w/is always money in the bank; or if you're a barter...I should say money under the matress. Kevin,
DavyZ
My bad--I didn't read correctly: he did say ZX, not Z. Kevin is right, you need the tach from a Z, not ZX, to make it work right.
