Guest indecisive
I've been in the Z32 scene for a while, and would love to buy a bodyshell and do an non-VG engine swap of some kind for a street/track car, but since it's just a backburner idea I haven't planned any specifics. L28ET, LS1/2/6 and SR20 are the only three choices I'd consider, but it's impossible to pick between those because I like each as much as the next. But before we get ahead of ourselves, I just had a few general questions about swapping, since I'm a total n00b in this respect. 1) Mounting the motor. Okay, let's assume I've got an LS1 and it's ready to go in. I would lower the motor in the car and check all clearances and make sure it's square, but then what? Of course it's not going to bolt up, so what is your objective at this point? Do you want to connect the Z32's mount location with the LS1's or weld an entirely different mount on the LS1 altogether? Gah, I don't even know how to phrase the question--hopefully somebody's getting my drift. 2) I'm okay with losing stuff like the stereo, A/C, and cruise, but the Z32 is a pig of a car and would be a bitch to drive without power steering. Is there any way to retain that? 3A) Wiring. How in the world are you supposed to make a non-stock engine work off the chassis' systems? My guess is, like if it were an SR20, you'd simply plug the SR's EFI harness into the SR ECU, but there's got to be more to it than that. 3B) Obviously tons of wire can be removed due to so many commodities being lost, so basically the only things remaining will be power windows and locks, headlights and taillights, and a few interior/dash lights. Would you start hacking on the Nissan harness, or just run your own wiring? I THINK I'm okay with most of the rest, it's just these 3 vague and very basic questions that I'm stumbling over. I feel embarrassed just looking at the vast knowledge on this forum and then coming to post this stupid crap, but I figure even if I'm getting flamed, somebody might help. So anyway, be easy on me, and thanks to all who reply!
