Guest Anonymous
Crisis? Maybe, maybe not. The Tokico Illumina inserts for the 280Z front (BZ3012) have a small threaded end. The nut for these struts that comes with the camber plates has a built-in centering bushing, that is, there is a short (3/8"?) collar that extends below the true "nut" to fill the gap between the threads and the spherical bearing (SB) in the camber plates. Nice fit. The MR2 rear strut inserts (BZ3099) that I'm using in front have a much larger thread. The end of the threads is about even with the top of the SB, so I think up and down motion can be eliminated, but the unthreaded portion that is inside the SB has a bit of clearance. It appears that a strip of an aluminum can material is about all that might fit into this space, but play is play. Suggestions? Experiences? One other thing - if/when I rotate the shock shaft as I tighten the top nut, am I damaging the insert? Thanks! It goes together tonight, gets rubber in the a.m., and then I drive it to Mid Ohio for 3 days of (ahem) testing.
Guest scca
use a copper water tube or plastic water supply tube to take up the slop . spinning the insert wont hurt it. sometimes put the nut upside down helps as well- use a impact gun to tighten the nuts..
