Guest zfan
I've put 235/60-15's and 265/50-15's on mine. It's a 71 model and is a little tight but worked. Was more worried re: clearence with the wheel well/hidth wise. Mike
DavyZ
Ryhan, I suggest you go to Pete Paraska's site and see what size tires he put under the car! Find a thread with his name and you'll see the prompt for his site. Davy
Guest Anonymous
Pete is using coil overs though, so keep that in mind, its not the body that causes as much problem as rubbing on the spring on the inside of the wheel. Do a search on wheels, this is been discussed in alot of different threads... Regards, Lone
BLKMGK
The widest tires I'm comfortable putting in my stock fendered 240 would be 245 in the back an maybe 245 in front. I actually went with 235's up front though. I test fitted a 255 tires that I had in the garage and just didn't see it fitting, I think Pete might have managed this though. 255 has got to be the widest without sticking out, I have no idea how anyone could get a 265 in there unless the car sits up higher than mine? My feeling was that the added 10mm I'd get wih a 255 was simply not worth the hassle. I'm running 245 45 Drag Radials so I don't figure traction being any better with a 255 "normal" tire. Guest Anonymous
Does anyone know offhand how much an extra 10mm means in terms of contact patch and traction? I'm just curious. I'm sure it would depend on the tires profile and the actual footprint on the road. Also remember when talking the widest tire that a 255 of one brand might be much wider than a 255 of another. I'm not sure if they are just fast and loose with the aspect ratio and width, but one brand can vary more than an inch just by tire brand and the tires profile. What I'm trying to say is don't assume that if someone has 245's of one brand that all 245's will have be the same exact width or you may find your sidewall touching your springs. DavyZ
BLKMGK: don't you have coilovers too? I had forgotten Pete had coilovers until Lone brought it to my attention. Now I'm wondering without coilovers, what is the widest tire that can be mounted. I don't have my JTR book here at work, but they mention a 245/50-16 with zero offset or something like that in the rear if one does the spring perch mod. That is certainly something I will do in the future. Davy
BLKMGK
Yup, I have coilovers. About $100 per corner and some labor so it's worth doing IMO. The 255's I used were Bridgestone I believe - were for an Impalla SS
