Guest brad
I have a question a few posts down about how to remove a control arm from the back of the Z if the pivot pin has rusted to the strut housing. It was going to cost me about $100 to replace the pivot pins, nuts, tapered draw keys, etc. Since everything felt tight back there except the strut, I didn't want to replace the control arm bushings. I ended up avoiding taking the pivot pin out completely. I unbolted the sway bar, the half-shaft, all the brake hardware, and the control arm at the brackets on the inboard side. Then I just removed the entire corner of the car to replace the strut! Not pretty and not quick, but not as painful as dealing with those pins either. So those of you who want to replace the struts but don't care about the suspension bushings (yet), you may be able to get away with replacing select components without having to deal rusty pins. Guest Anonymous
You can also remove the sway bar and brake lines and let the whole thing "hang" on control arm. It will swing down and out enough to take off the gland nut and replace the strut with a cartridge, swing it back up, re-attach the lines and bars and away you go. Guest Anonymous
Thanks for that tip, I'm about to replace rear springs and struts and didn't want to have to remove them all the way. Thanks. Lone
