Guest 73TPIZ
The other night i was cruisin' in my '73 in our small town about 10pm on a four lane street. I come up in the right lane behind a pack of 6-7 cars. An ~'01 convertable Trans Am with paper plates and two teenage boys in it is straggling in the left lane. I ease by on the right, cutouts closed, mindin' my own business. Sure enough, I hear the dooowoooooh as they nail the go pedal, run up beside me and wanna play. We play a couple of times (30-50mph stuff, nothing hardcore). Finally i pull the cutout lever and do the 30to50 run open header style. We're all laughing, thumbs up and whatnot. Then I start to notice a lady in the pass side of a Wrangler up ahead of the boys is looking over her shoulder every 5 secs so i tell the guys to chill before she calls the cops. That's when they tell me that the couple in the Jeep is their parents, so i'm like ok, no biggie i guess. By then, we've been chatting back and forth for a mile or so at stoplights and such all friendly (they loved those cutouts). Then the Jeep gets in a left turn lane with the TA in behind it and i go on by. Well i tell 'ya, i don't know exactly what the momma said to me, but it didn't sound to nice. I kinda laughed and went on about my business. Maybe she thought we were arguing or something, i dunno. I thought it funny that these parents buy their kid a 300 HP sports car and then get mad at someone else 'cause their kid jumps on a 30 year old primered P.O.S Datsun and get surprised when the 30 year old P.O.S Datsun jumps back. If a parent buys their kid a sports car for his first ride, they are deluding themselves if he thinks he won't race it some, if not a lot. My parents were no different 20 years ago when they let me trade my '84 Cougar for an '81 280ZX. Raced everything i could. Made it home every night, thank the good Lord. Man I loved my first Z. All in all an enjoyable night, just thought i'd share my experience. Too funny.
