texis30O
Well the time has come. I am finally getting shot of picking up the baddest sleeper I have ever known. My father used to be the president of the Z Club in Houston back in the day. Well we just got rid of our 73' 240Z a few weeks ago. Well I am going to look at a 72 that is still carborated on 20lbs of boost. It is also on a water/meth, and has a dual stage nitrous kit. By the calculations the car should dyno in the mid 400's. The guy tha thas this Z also has a 83' 911 that is putting mid 500's to the wheels.....so he knows his cars..... The Problem.... The car has not been started in TEN YEARS. However it has been in the garage!!!!! I will take lots of pics tonight when I look at it. I would like to get some opinions as to what I will have to do to get it running. I would like to keep it a orig. and not switch to EFI. I know that the body needs new paint but there is NO RUST....... I am so freakin excited!!!!!! JSM
1. New Battery 2. Change oil 3. Squirt some oil in down the plug holes 4. Remove valve cover and Pour oil all over the Valves, cam, etc. 5. Hand turn the motor to make sure nothing else is seized 6. Rebuild the Carbs, change fuel filter 7. Remove old gas (possible rust in tank) May need to drop and seal tank 8. Turbo may need to be checked, make sure you lub it w/oil and the oil runs through 9. Change fuel hoses, radiator hoses, belts, spark plugs, drain radiator fluid and flush 10. Check clutch slave valve and make sure it is working and change fluid 11. Drain Trans and rear end fluid, grease any fittings 12. Check brakes make sure their not froze or rusted over rotors and drums 13. Change brake fluid 14. Have fun! JSM
I would think if this person knows about cars how important it is you run them on a regular basis? Something sounds strange, unless money isn't a factor.
texis30O
Money isn't a factor with him. He has been a family friend for over 30 years. My father and I know the history on this car. He jsut got really involved with his career and let the Z sit. As he was out of town a LOT. He would Start it every so often but not drive it on a regular basis, cause he has a sickly boosted 911 as well.
