Guest Mike
"Dum" question: With the heads off, is it possible to tell whether I have forged or cast pistons without removing them?
Guest coppergmc
No, not really. You can tell if you have really cheap cast rebuilder dish pistons. Some of the old forged pistons that came in older corvette engines are easy to spot because they have one large valve relief.

Guest Mike
Hmm... I haven't looked that closely yet. I'll do a bit more cleaning and check it out. Thanks!!
Guest Mike
There is indeed a part number on te top of the pistons. I've searched many of the major auto stores on line and none return an affirmative find. These are # 02-228-08-B if the format of that number looks familiar to anyone. Guest Mike
Sorry but no. That would certainly make things easier, eh:grin:
dustin280zx
after looking i found a number that is close and very might well be the piston. they are keith black hypereutic pistons. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=UEM%2DKB228030%2D8&N=700+0&autoview=sku yours would probably be std. bore though because your # dont have the 030 on the end. EDIT: I just visited Keith Black's website and his numbering scheme is completely different. Good try though:grin:
