Guest Frank Rich
Interesting - I'm kinda partial to using contrasting or bright colors to make "details" stand out - I really like the look of bright colors on calipers, and I like the idea/look of cad plating rotors, so...how far do some of you think I can go without crossing the line into "riceboy" territory? (Which I may have already done on the bodywork - sorry - that's another thread, I'll explain later!) What about contrasting/bright paint or powdercoating on control arms? I've already got bright medium blue powdercoating on my springs - how about contrasting colors on spring perches (cadmium plating again?) and strut housings? Completely open to all opinions, here - looking for input pro & con about bright and flashy vs. subtle and understated - (just as long as it doesn't affect performance) what do you like to see in/on a car's suspension & brakes? BTW, Mike/SCCA, the Outlaw Clipers only come in black, correct? I mean, the way they stop the car is more important than the way they look, and they do look good, but I just wondered... Guest Frank Rich
Dyslexia strikes again That's "Calipers", Mike - not "clipers" - although I'm sure you figured that out "Lead me not into Temptation, I'm getting there just fine on my own!" Modern Motorsports Ltd
I think those bright colours can be great, their's a pic (low res) of cad plated hubs on my site/products/brakes and right at the bottom. I just last week saw some wheels powdercoated on the BACKSIDE which I thought was very kewl considering you can have almost any colour done in powdercoating..and 'new' colours are just out in ceramic I've heard, really opening up the options. Guest scca
outlaw comes in black but they will do a run of 10 pieces per model in any color i want and and logo on them.. they do private label for a few other places already, GRT, Trans-auto in Britian etc.... DavyZ
Frank Rich: those are gold cad plated rotors we were discussing!!! Not the calipers! And for the record, I think bright colored calipers are really kewl looking! I want mine in bright yellow or red. Porshe has been doing it for years, and if it's good enough for them, by golly it's good enough for my baby. Pete: thanks, I'll take your prayers anytime! My neighborhood is full of them--but it's kinda funny, because you'll find all kinds in my neck of the woods. Right across the street from the riceyest of the ricers there is a guy building a blown BBC '39 Chevy coupe. He had to sell his 500 hp BBC Chevelle to fund the new project. Funny, I know his name and not the ricers across the street from him...I wonder which car would be faster: the 500 hp Chevelle or the riced out N/A talon with the big wings and ultra-sparkle paint? (I kid you not) Davy
BLKMGK
Hrm, the Outlaws ARE made from aluminum so it occurs to me that they could always be polished if you wanted a bright finish However I'm pretty sure that would cut down on their heat rejection. Black is fine by me as is the silver rotor. If the hub were more visible it might look nice in a different color. Isn't it possible to do anodizing at home? I seem to recall that it's simply oxidation that's been controlled, right? Migh tbe interesting to research. Purple would be my favorite choice but I think it tends to fade in the sun... Guest Frank Rich
Yeah, DavyZ - I got the idea about rotors, nor calipers - take a quick look at my post again - hmmm, Outlaw will do runs of ten pairs in color? I don't suppose there could be ten of us on this forum who want these brakes and could agree on the same color for a group buy? I'd go for red, yellow or gold - but then I'd want matching rears in the same color - so I'd have to find ten people who want fronts and rears to get a different color, right Mike? What are the odds? Guest scca
red or blue would likely be the colors that most would agree on... i think on the fronts i may be able to swing it -- the rears would come later... i couldnt decide what i wanted on them though?? still outlaw - "hybridZ" .....Z.. or come up with a new tuner type name? what?? BLKMGK
Seems to me that fron and rear would be two pair - no? Must they be 10 of he exact model etc.? Probably but ya' never know Hrm, how about purple calipers? Red would be fine too IMO. Not that I'll be swapping mine out anytime soon mind you
Guest scca
i see you FINALLY got your own domain at least i can remember that one.... as for the calipers its per model as they have to do a CNC run with the logo and its not worth their time to do less than near 40 pieces so thats 10 pairs of each model. then the send them out to have coated in whatever color you want... BLKMGK
Hrm, since they sned them out for coating... why not skip the custom logo and go right for a custom color? That might allow you to mixmatch he models and still get the color? Or are they strict on that too? Finding two or three people doing anentire setup that just wanted color seems like it would be easier to me... Hrm, find that MC by any chance? And yeah the domain is easier to remember but now all my friends want me to explain it

Guest Frank Rich
Okay, Mike - this is kinda off-the-wall, but how about "Z-Spectra" on the calipers? It reflects the fact that they're going on Z-cars, it relates to the idea of a spectrum of different colors, and it also alludes to the concept that there ae as many different HybridZs out there as there are people with the desire and imaginations to build them - a whole spectrum of different versions and executions of the same bsic idea! It even sounds kinda "tuner" IMHO - but then, its my idea, so I would think that! Just a funky idea that popped out while I wasn't looking "Lead me not into Temptation, I'm getting there just fine on my own!" Frank
