Guest KraZ4spd
I know that powder coating is one way to go, but what are some alternatives? Is Por-15 tough enough for control arms and what not? quote
Drax240z
Definately. After sandblasting my POR-15's arms feel like their painted for ever. (its tough!)
DavyZ
Richard, I know Powdercoating is extremely tough and resistant to chipping, but is POR-15 as tough?? I know if there is rust it's going over, then it's probably as tenacious, but I'm unsure if it is clean metal will it hold up as well? I almost think I saw them selling a chip resistant paint and colored paint as well at the Goood Guys show. Davy
Modern Motorsports Ltd
Well I took a couple items of a friends to be machined that he'd put por15 on....machinist had to file off some extra POR15 'blobs' that interfered with him setting the pieces up in his machine, so strength is certainly their (it was like a JB weld chunk). I had to do the same in working with it....(ie. if it was poorly applied to a hub face your wheel would not sit flush!). Some classic camaro owners have been v. impressed with its durability. BLKMGK
Be aware too that some powedercoating is tougher than others. IF you go with powder be sure to ask about which ones are toughest. Some may not be as UV resistant either but on suspension that shouldn't be an issue. My rear stuff was powdered and I found that if I wasn't careful some of it would scratch (shrug). I've nto yet had to use POR.
Guest KraZ4spd
The reason I was asking was because Por-15 advertises "tough as powdercoating" on there web site. I tested it today and am thoroughly convinced that it is tough. Dipped a piece of metal in Por-15 and let it cure 24hrs. Then took it to my wire wheel on my bench grinder. VERY Tough
