84-85 300zx wheels on a 280z

Those 84 Z31 4lug wheels are likely ~+20mm offset. Did you write down the specs cast on the wheel? 15JJ 6 20 or similar whill be written somewhere.....they're a bolt on swap for a 510, and they like some positive offset....they may fit on yours or tuck in too tight.....a 10mm spacer may be all you'd need to have them fit if they don't fit as is.

I had a set of these on an early model 260 and had to use 1/4" spacers on the front to keep my 225 50's from rubbing when I cut the wheels for hard turns, rears fit fine.

I'm looking for a set of 15" wheels for my 280z, and I came across a set of 84' 15" non-turbo 4-lug 300zx wheels. Has anyone ever sucessfully done this swap. My original goal was a set of 280zx turbo swastica wheels but I found them hard to come by. Any info would help. Thanx!

They should fit. I'm running 205/60/15s all around in my 240Z. In hindsight I should have gotten something more like a 215/55/15 but oh well. With my particular tires (AVS Intermediates) the rear tire just barely rubs on the adjuster nut for the coilovers I'm using. It may be different for your application, but I ended up using a 1/4" spacer in the rear only. Front fits just fine.

I used 1/4" spacers in the front and rear, although only the front needed the extra clearance. These wheels are great for the budget 15" wheel swap. They look decent and I bought all 4 with fair 225/60/15 tires for a mere $60.00 at pick-n-pull (Sacremento). They had several more sets and get them all the time!

FWIW, if you're going to be using a spacer anyhow....might as well push them out as far as you can comfortably, or what your studs and available spacers will allow. A decent autox driver can notice a 1/8" spacer and we all know greater track width is typically better. So if you do go to the trouble of swapping in longer studs etc, I'd push your wheels out as far as is comfortable towards your outer fender lips......I'm not sure I'd be comfortable using slipons on OEM studs at all. 7/16's I'd feel better and 1/2" I'm very relaxed and enjoying the track width

icon_biggrin.gif If you're just clearing coilover adjusting nuts with 205 or 215 treads you now have a narrower track width than an OEM Z....as 225's clear OEM perches/springs on 0 offset.
