280zx_sliding Posted November 24, 2006 Share Posted November 24, 2006 well i was getting a sqweak from my belt area so i changed the belts. noticed that my alternator was pretty loose. I took the screw out and the threads had the threads from inside the alternator on them. what do u think i should do about this??? should i go with a new alternator or go with tapping the alternator again Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

280zx_sliding Posted November 24, 2006 Author Share Posted November 24, 2006 not 100% sure what im seeing but i noticed the guy who had the car before me was a complete idiot... he didnt put the bottom bolt into the alternator and thats why the top one wasnt holding. my next question is that i have oil all underneath the car but its just a gasket leak. is the oil pan gasket rtv or is it a whole gasket. plus where can i get that alternator bolt??? Guest Mike Posted November 24, 2006 Share Posted November 24, 2006 If you're not sure what a helicoil is, it's a steel wire coil, which is screwed into a larger set of threads. These replaceable steel helicoil threads offer more strength than just tapping into the aluminum. They also offer the convenience of being replaceable if they're damaged. You may want to post the oil leak question in the appropriate engine forum. You'll probably have better luck getting the information you need.
