I have an LT1 out of a 96 impala ss and it came without the harness. And after speaking with Painless Wiring and Street and Performance they told me that i could not run a 700R4 with the harness that goes with that engine and I would have to go to a 93 harness and computer and still to this day am wondering why. I have a 93 camaro which is wrecked so i robbed the harness off it. Now I wonder what computer I will have to run and what else I will have to do to make this work. Or else do something else. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They are wrong.

You can run the 700R4 but it obviously won't be computer controlled and you'll have to figure out some way to get a Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) signal to the computer so it can manage the Idle Air Control. If the transmission already has one you're good to go or you can do what I did and put one inline with the speedo cable.

I'm not running an auto but a T-5 thats not computer controlled. My engine, computer and harness came from a 95 Caprice cop car and other than the OBD-II stuff your's has they are the same. OBD-II had the second set of O2 sensors after the CATS.

I stripped out the tranny control wiring and loaded a program from a manual Camaro as a starting point. I put the VSS in so the IAC would work and the car wouldn't die if I shifted down to slow the car.

Everything works great and you should be able to set yours up the same way.

You want a 95 computer, it's OBD-I and can be reprogrammed without replacing a ROM chip.
