Struts.... Which ones to use?

Dammit, I just spent half an hour typing up this post and when I submitted it the server froze up on me and I lost it! Grrrrrrr icon_mad.gif

Let's try this again now...

Now I know this subject has been beaten to death... I just spent the past couple hours reading up on previous posts and I'm still somewhat confused regarding what to do. I've got a '71 shell I'm building up, however it has no suspension. No control arms, no strut housings, no nothing. I was thinking I could either buy a complete front and rear assembly from a 240Z and bolt it right in, or I could buy one from a 280Z and stick that in since they are more plentiful and hence cheaper. Not 100% certain it will drop right in though... Anyhow, I got myself a really good deal on the following:

240Z & 280Z F&R Kontrolle strut cartridges

240Z & 280Z F&R KYB oil filled cartridges

240Z F&R Koni non-adj cartridges

75-84 Rabbit Rear Kontrolle cartridges

87-89 MR2 Rear Tokico (HZ3099) cartridges

What I want to know is if I should go ahead and use the 280 suspension, or stick with the 240 stuff, and what combination of shocks would be best? What would be involved in making them fit if they are not stock? I've got 1-1.5" lowering springs (dunno the brand) and would like to know what would be best. Thanks

use the 280 susp tubes, throw away the controlle inserts.

use the mr2 and the rabbit inserts, shorten the rear and put the rabbit ones in it but youwill need like a 3-4" spacer under the strut as the rabbit ones are way too short.

up front the mr2 ones will need a spacer but only like 1".

this all depends on rim size.......and if goin to use camber plates or not.. this all affects ride height so figure all this out before you start

Good, looks like I'll be going with the 280 tubes.. What's wrong with the Kontrolles though? I've heard nothing but good things about them. Is it because they are oil and not gas filled? I'm not doing any crazy mods to my suspension, just springs, shocks, bushings, and sway bars. Will be running 15x6.5 rims with 25mm offset and 225/50/15 tires. Brakes will be 300ZX vented/280ZX caliper in the front and 280/280 setup in the back. So what exactly are the advantages of going with the MR2/Rabbit cartridges as opposed to the stock 280 units? Is it just a matter of fitment/clearance when used with larger tires or is it to regain suspension travel? So with all this in mind should I go ahead with the MR2 rears at the front, and the Rabbit rears at the back, or could I do better? Why not go with the MR2s all around? Looking forward to hear people's thoughts on this
