Guest funkysole
Hello i'm new to this forum but not new to wiring cars and what not. Current project is a 1973 240Z with a V8 transplant already done. We decided to re-wire the car using a painless wiring kit #10102 12circuit non gm column. I figured out the turn signals, hazard switch, High Low Beams. Got the Alternator wired up and all the lights are a go from the dome light to the parking lights and inbetween. Ready to fire the car up. But im stuck on the wiring of the wiper switch to the motor. Here is my situation. I completly removed the old harness and relays, but the kid that cleans the shop through out everything. Is there any way to re-wire the wiper switch to the motor and have the wipers return to the down position after the switch is turned off??? I can't figure it out, thats the only thing that is keeping me back. off the wiper motor: Black-ground?? Blue-??to blue on switch?? Blue/yellow-??to blue/yellow on switch?? Blue/white-??to blue/white on switch?? Blue/red-??+12v constant power??+12v switched power??or to Blue/red on switch?? Off switch: Blue/red-??? Blue.yellow-??to blue/yellow on motor?? Blue/white-??to Blue/white on motor?? Blue-??to blue on motor?? Yellow/black??? Yellow/green??? Red/blue??? Black??? Any info wiring diagram or simply what goes where would be great. i know there are relays but how many and where? I think i still have the relay panel off the passenger side kick. I have the wiring diagrams already posting in previous threads and those didnt help me out. thank in advance.
COZY Z COLE
Is there any way to re-wire the wiper switch to the motor and have the wipers return to the down position after the switch is turned off??? . Let's see if we can get you going in the right direction. After you have the wiper motor wired turn the ignition switch on and turn the wiper switch on and cycle the motor a few times. Turn the wiper motor off with the wiper switch, not the ignition switch. It will be in the down psition. Then turn the igniition off. As to your wiper motor wires.... Black- Ground Blue- Combo switch Blue. Blue/Yellow- Combo switch Blue/Yellow Blue/White- Combo switch Blue/White Blue/Red- Goes to the Blue/Red on the Ignition switch. It is not a direct circuit. Refer to Fig.'s 7&8 in the following link. http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?ForwardPage=/az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/1d/1d/80/0900823d801d1d80.jsp LARRY
Guest funkysole
Okay, I wired the motor wires to the switch as noted above but the motor does not turn on at all. I'm thinking the switch is bad????? But now what are the Yellow/black, Yellow/Green,and all the other wires on the combo switch? where do those go???? COZY Z COLE
Replace the 20A wiper fuse... 2nd down on the left side of the fuse box. Next do you have intermitten wiper option? Do you have 2 or 3 white dots on the wiper switch knob? 3 dots mean you have the intermitten wiper option. If you do the relay that controls the wipe cycle is usually on the motor and not on the kick panel. Answer this and we'll go from there. Guest funkysole
The control has 3 dots, And when i tested the motor I did this, Blue/Red off the motor to bat +12v Black off motor to chassis ground Blue/White off motor triggered the relay when grounded Blue/Yellow off motor triggered the High when grounded Blue off mototr triggered low when grounded I'm guessing that the wiper switch works off grounds instead of 12v power. So technically if i hook up blue to blue b/w to b/w and b/y to b/y and then ground the black wire on the combo switch it should work then right? COZY Z COLE
You are correct. This may help. LARRY
Guest funkysole
ok so today when i get to the shop in the evening im going to hook up the wires as i stated above from the motor to the switch. now where do the other wires on the switch go though, thats my problems. I have a black, blue/red, Red/blue, Yellow/black and yellow/green. But i think the yellow/green turns into blue white on the other end of the connector. Do i need to hook up those wires so that the switch works???? And how do i test the switch to see if the switch is not bad? To i do a continuity test with a fluke meter?? Cause when i hook up in lead to the yellow/green and the other lead to the yellow/black and red/blue and turn the switch the the y/b is the middle dot and the r/b is the last dot on the switch, But the blu, blue/yellow, blue.red and blue/white get nothing. Its wierd. If you could e-mail some scans of the combo switch wiring from a repair manual if you have one i would apreciate it, im only working on this one z and dont want to go out and buy a manual if i dont have to. Cause the book is a special order and takes a few day.
