my question is should i clean the rear differential? it is covered in crud?

and assuming i do clean it what do i need to do, any caution, requirements, ect.

it is currently out of the vehicle and i want to do something, paint or wash it ect.

hey, im in the process of doing the same thing, still waiting on my energy suspension kit though. the guy at courtesynissan said energy suspension had a fire last week so they are a little behind. but ive been painting control arms and getting ready for the r200 swap. i pulled the dif cover off and used degreaser to clean it, then some aircraft stripper to remove all the paint, and it didnt damage the aluminum. im planning to put the cover back on before knocking all the rust off the case so i dont get anything inside and then paint it. no real precautions u need to worry about taking.
