Guest super280z
ok, Ross, SCCA, i need you;re input on this. Mark Iccard, i think you pulled this swap off allready but it was on a Z. i found a set of front discs, calipers, wheel hubs, and such from a 91+. my question is, can i retrofit these onto my 79 ZX. i suppose i will need the 300zx spindle and find a way to mount it on my current shock tube or by some strange chance will they fit on my spindles with some elbow grease? i think i could pick them up for pretty cheap but i want to be sure that they'll work first. what do you guys think? Modern Motorsports Ltd
Vince, that's not a bolt on swap by any means. Others that have done it passed on that given an option of a current existing upgrade available (ie. SCCA's, my own etc) they'd have chosen the existing setup. As I recall Mark did it with 2pc rotors etc, so really he only used the 300ZX calipers which aren't anything too rare. If they bolted up easier they'd be worth pursuing but costwise it might become a wash. Guys get hung up on 4piston calipers all the time. A 4piston caliper with 1.5" diameter pistons is equivalent in force to a 2piston floating caliper with two 1.5" diameter pistons (and is typically lighter with greater outboard wheel clearance). If you've got the confidence, time and resources you can brew your own brakes if you wish. Otherwise drop me a line
Guest Anonymous
Ross is right on the money. I have had those brakes on my car for about 7 years now. They work great but were very expensive to do and they don't have an e brake. I did not know about other options at the time and I'm not sure alot of options existed at that time, maybe they did. If I had it to do over again I would go with one of the set ups SCCA or Ross C. sells. They are well thoughtout and would work at least as well as what I have. Give'em a call. Guest super280z
thanks for the heads up guys. i didnt figure it would be all that easy of a swap because you dont see too many people using them. BTW Ross, did you get a chance to ship the bushing set? im going to need to get a set of those 5-way adjustable shocks and some springs as well for the front.
