New Guy, Need 240Z strut help

I looked in the archives and was unable to determine if the following strut inserts will fit in my 240Z tubes. I am interested in using some Koni 8610-1149 inserts which are 43.5mm (1.713in) in diameter and are 13 inches long. I am planning on shortening the struts a couple of inches and can put a spacer in if any length is needed. The diameter is the problem. I need to know if the ID of the 240Z tubes are big enough to handle a 43.5mm insert. Given the spring rates I want to use I cant use the popular strut inserts so I have had to look elsewhere. I know that the Tokico inserts for the 240Z are 43.05mm so I am not sure if I can squeeze the 43.5's in.

Thanks for your help.

I'm by no means an expert, but I removed some inserts from some '72 strut tubes recently, and they didn't seem to be TOO snug fitting. They were generic parts store inserts, but I don't think that matters. A half a millimeter ain't much. Besides, couldn't you return them if they don't fit. Also, do you know what that insert you are looking at is made for, or do you just know the sizes? If it is something common, you go to the auto parts store and trial fit it in your strut tube(you don't need to buy them there).

You may want to go easy on that 2 inch section of 240 front strut tubes because you will be limiting yourself to Toyota MR2 rear struts and VW Rabbit front struts. I sectioned my FRONT 280 Z strut tubes 2 inches and found I was limited to a strut cartridge length of 13 inches. I am waiting for a front set of KYB GR-2's (Stock # 364014) to arrive via an eBay sale. I checked these out at a shop and found these (#364014) cartidges were as thick as the stock Datsun and just shy of 13 inches. These fit VW Golf , Jetta, GTI, 1980's models. I also ran across some shorter struts for a 80's Sirrocco (?) which are less than 12 inches with smaller diameter KYB GR2 (stock # 361005.I have no idea why a Sirrocco is smaller or what I found is correct but apparently there are some 80 VW models that have a smaller strut cartridge.. My experience is with 280 Z's and I have never owned a 240 Z but I beleive the 240 stock strut tubes are shorter and less inside diameter than 280's. Correct me if I am wrong. The gland nut (that I have) on top of the Datsun strut tubes also allow you to place a strut cartridge almost to the top of the tubes. The Datsun gland nuts I have also incorporate a metal split ring reducer that can be removed from the inside of the nut to accomodate the tops of larger bodied strut cartriges which the KYB GR2 (#364014) is from the Datsun cartridge strut top. Measure that 240 Z strut tube many times before you cut it and check out a few shops to see what cartridges that you are limited to and find what stock #'s are discontinued/interchanged and what is avaiable!!! As the previous post advised check them out first>
