Another shortned strut question

I havent pulled my strut inserts out yet to measure anything, but if I remember correctly the rear strut inserts (75Z with Tokico illumnas) used a spacer below the insert that is approx 3".

Would it be possible to run that rear insert without the spacer in the front and rear strut tubes allowing you to shorten the strut housing 3"?

Thanks, Nathan

I have never heard of a reccomendation to section the strut housing 3 inches. 2 inches maybe maximum to section a strut housing . Keep in mind 240 thru 280 strut tubes are different with the 280Z's being bigger in length and diameter. I sectioned my 280 Z front strut tubes 2 inches and have found that a set of VW Rabbit front KYB GR2 struts # 364014 will fit snugly at 13+ inches in the 2 inch sectioned 280Z strut housings. There was a set of shorter and smaller diameter KYB GR2 struts # 361005 that would reguire a spacer of 1 1/2+ inch in the 280 front strut houesing. There is another thread in this section that is more in detail about this subject.Of course you can use the Datsun front struts in the sectioned rear strut housing.I tried some Toyata MR2 rear struts but found them too long but suspect there was some kind of mistake since there are many members using this application for the front struts I have been told that coilovers will lower the car 2 inches without sectioning. There are a few fellows on this site that are experts on this subject.I would suggest measuring and going to a shop and looking at and measuring struts before any cutting is done. The only reason I sectioned two inches is I need about a 3 to 4 inch drop to get the Tomahawk Z to look right.
