SuperPickle Posted April 7, 2007 Share Posted April 7, 2007 I've already searched and, after two hours of it, I really need to go to bed . I had been stripping the paint and mostly rust off of my airbox for a couple days, when I suddenly needed to use my car to get to an interview. I threw it back together and reconnected it to the hose--sort of. I did the top two bolts and hose part, but it was really cold out and I needed to be there in two hours (1:20 hour trip), so I did lay down to get the bottom two screws. Just enough to where it wouldn't shake loose, ya know? Well, I get all spiffied up for the interview, go out to the car, start it ( a small miracle to itself), and go to close the hood. It doesn't close. *Crap*, I thought, *the bottom two screws weren't lined up with the holes in the bracket, so it's sitting too high*. I tried to shove it into place by hand, but I'd tightened the ones up top too much (I really didn't want it to shake loose on the highway!). I didn't have time to go into the house and grab the rachet set from the basement, so I just shoved the hood into place. I've since taken the airbox out, but now my hood is raised half an inch up front, and the alignments a bit off-kilter. Off the top of anyones head, is there way to adjust the alignment (I'm sure there is) and the height as well (not so sure there is). Please excuse my ignorance/perceived laziness, as it's cold and dark out, and the warmest thing I own is the suit. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
280zwitha383 Posted April 7, 2007 Share Posted April 7, 2007 I'm curious what will be suggested. About a year ago I propped my hood up against the fence where I used to park my truck. Left then came home in the truck, got out and thought to myself where's my hood. Turned around and saw one end of my hood suspended in the air and the other end had a truck on it. I just figured someday I would buy another hood from a JY. I have had thoughts of using a vice and some large blocks of wood to kind of press the bent part out. A vice might work in my situation because the bend is on the edge. I don't know about something that was bent more towards the middle. 280zwitha383 Posted April 7, 2007 Share Posted April 7, 2007 Well, when I put my hood back on I had to do a bit (read a lot) of adjusting just to get it to latch. I don't think trying to make it look right by adjusting it will ever work. I think it needs to be bent back. I'll play with it a little and see what happens. 280z1975 Posted April 8, 2007 Share Posted April 8, 2007 One word of advice ... when lowering the hood down make sure the hood is aligned with the latch properly. It's a pain the A$$ to get it undone (you have to up it up on a lift, go under the car and wrench off the the two bolts which hold the latch), I know, I had to do it last year. Just watch out for the exhaust pipes ... and if you have upgrade the engine and there isn't space to get up there, Hello cutting wheel and new hood . Best of luck ...
